Cooking With Garlic

All throughout the ages, garlic is used for culinary and therapeutic purposes. Most of the times, it has been passionately rejected because of its strong scent it leaves on the breath of an eater when it is eaten raw. But as it is grilled in one of the home depot grills or sautéed with olive oil, it is quite pleasing to devour in it.
What people don’t know is that, it is a member of the lily family. It is allium in Latin and has the scientific name Allium sativum. It originated in Siberia and was brought to Egypt by the Asian nomads. Through the years, garlic has been used to cure and prevent certain illness. It can relieve headache, toothache, sores, wounds, infections, gangrene, jaundice, intestinal worms and insect bites.
Garlic may be eaten raw, sautéed, boiled, roasted and fried. It serves as an excellent flavoring for fish, seafood, poultry, pork, lamb, beef, turkey and even plain vegetables. What is more is that, you can finely chop raw garlic and mix it into dips and sauces. You can add it in guacamole, hummus and mayonnaise. You can even make a good garlic bread buy mixing it with garlic, other herbs and butter. One can even indulge in garlic chips. American barbecue with the use of home depot grills is never complete without garlic. It is an essential ingredient for the marinade, basting and the barbecue sauce. Indian curries need this herb too. There are lots of uses of this plant. It does have a peculiar scent but if you cook it longer, you can get the smell become milder. If it leaves a scent on your breath, you can sip a glass of wine. It will help mask the smell.
